☆Otoshidama – How kids in Japan gets rich☆

In Japan, there is a custom where you give money to young children on New Year’s Day. It is called お年玉 Otoshidama in Japanese.

Otoshidama are mostly given to children of close friends and relatives. The amount of money you give depends on how much you want to give, but normally it depends on the age of the child you are giving it to. The amount range is between ¥1,000 up to ¥10,000.

The money is handed out in a small decorated envelopes called “pochibukuro”.
Shinsatsu or Newly printed bill are usually used when giving Otoshidama.
Surely you will put a smile to a kid whenever they receive this gift in New Year!
